The crowd-controlling turn-based strategy game The Great Villainess: Strategy of Lily is launching for the PC via Steam on July 23. This was announced by One or Eight and Alliance Arts during the INDIE Live Expo.
Aside from the announcement, the studio released new gameplay footage lasting almost an hour and showcases Act I. That's not all since a trailer has been released as well that gives a sneak peek at Act II as it introduces 19 new characters.
The story focuses on the Duchess Scarlet. She's not obedient to the closed and suppressed Empire and has refused to follow the custom or values of the aristocracy. Because of this, she's been falsely accused of killing the King and faces the Imperial Kingdom’s guillotine. With just microseconds to spare, a time-traveling livestreamer from the future named Lily rescues her from a bloody fate. The two now set out together to clear Scarlet's name.
The Great Villainess: Strategy of Lily has players fight falsehoods through media manipulation in a pre-Internet era. They get to use Lily’s modern-day broadcasting blimp releasing persuasive propaganda from above. Players have to convince enemy generals to move troops to different parts of the battlefield and then flank their weak spots to increase the odds of victory. They'll also have to sow seeds of doubt to lower their morale and incur defection.
Defeating enemy battalions and freeing captured prisoners result in Scarlet increasing her skills. Players have to convince conflicted opponents to join Scarlet's side and with it increase her ranks. Bonds with allies can be deepened through conversation and improve army strength and unlock new Unison skills. The goal is to build an army large enough, and trustworthy enough, to topple the Imperial Kingdom’s reign.
In a statement, the development team shared that their upcoming offers players different ways to play. The team added that they’ve implemented a lot of updates that were based on feedback from the community.
The game arrives on the PC with language options in English, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), and Korean.
