Exciting news for fans of the classic Dune video games. Funcom revealed that soundtracks from Dune and Dune II: Battle for Arrakis are available in the upcoming Dune: Awakening. Players can listen to it via the in-game radio.
The Dune II: Battle for Arrakis soundtrack was made possible by Frank Klepacki. Meanwhile, it was Philippe Ulrich and Stéphane Picq who were the ones who composed the Dune: Spice Opera soundtrack until it was remastered in 2024. Sadly though Stéphane Picq passed away in February 2025.
In a post, Chief Creative Officer Joel Bylos shared that Dune has a legacy not only in books and films but even in video games. In fact, the soundtracks of Dune and Dune II were considered to be "some of the greatest of the 90’s." For Bylos, it's a great honor to be able to share these soundtracks with a new generation of players.
In Dune: Awakening, players can listen to these soundtracks through the Communinet. The Communinet is an in-game centralized communications network which offers three channels to choose from alongside broadcasts about emergencies, sandstorms or the Landsraad. Players can tune in to the official Atreides, as well as Harkonnen channels, and hear propaganda, arena fight coverage and motivational speeches.
Meanwhile, those looking for something extra while gathering resources or building bases can tune in to Harvester Radio. This is the station for spice miners and the commoner workforce and broadcasts ads, survival tips, music, and entertainment.
Dune: Awakening is an open world and multiplayer survival game on a massive scale. In reality, it’s more than just survival since the game offers a large-scale, persistent, and highly immersive world that has social hubs bustling with other players, server-wide politics and intrigue, and even a cinematic storyline that’s sure to leave players at the edge of their seat.
In this universe, the Fremen have vanished and Paul Atreides was never born. This is because Lady Jessica obeyed the Bene Gesserit and gave birth to a girl. Meanwhile, Duke Leto Atreides himself has survived the assault on Arrakeen and is now locked in a brutal conflict against the Harkonnen over Arrakis and its precious spice. This rather unique but still familiar take on the iconic sci-fi universe of Dune has players start as a prisoner sent to Arrakis and learn more about why the Fremen disappeared.
Pre-order of Check Dune: Awakening is now available on Steam.
